Library Frustration

April 16, 2011

Grr!! Here's what happened. I was browsing through my library's paperback section and found a couple of mystery books that sounded good. I knew they were part of a series, but I was pretty sure at the time that I got the first two books. Turns out, I didn't. OK, no problem, right? Just go back onto my library website and request the first book in the series, no big deal. Wrong! Big deal! Apparently, my library has no record of any of the books in the series- not even the two I checked out a few hours before! What the heck?!

My Hubby had the answer to why there was no records for the books. You see, my library doesn't keep all the paperbacks information. In other words, some of the paperbacks show up in the system and some don't. Basically, you have to go to each library and check the shelves yourself to find out if they have it. This makes absolutely no sense to me. The books have a bar code, so why don't they show up in the system? Why does the library only register some of them? I get that there are many of them per library branch and that paperbacks can be ruined faster, but still!! If you have the book, you should have a record of the book!

Having said all that, I still love my library and have no plans to stop going. I wonder if they'd hire me to record all the books? That could be fun!

Working in a library would be a dream job, wouldn't it?:) My library also has some problems with keeping records, but I guess that's unavoidable.

yeah it would be!!! I want to go back to school for library science so I can work in a library. Maybe I'll even do the librarian thing.
