Consignment Shop Series

March 11, 2014

I would like to share with you a cozy mystery series that is a favorite of mine. This fairly new series makes you laugh and long to be among the zany characters and their even more zany adventures. Allow me to introduce to you the Consignment Shop Series y the talented Duffy Brown.

Set in Savannah, you have a beautiful, historical backdrop to play with. You have the hilarious, charming Southern sayings that I enjoy to no end. You have characters who keep you interested. What's not to love?!

#1. Iced Chiffon

You meet Reagan Summerside. Recently divorced, and left penniless, she opens a consignment shop out of her own house by selling her old things. Things go from bad to worse when the woman her ex left her for, Cupcake, turns up dead. The cheating ex becomes suspect #1, but Reagan isn't convinced. Turning her Auntie Kiki into her sidekick, she snoops around and learns there was a whole conniving side to Cupcake no one knew of, but plenty didn't like.

It was love at first page between me and Iced Chiffon. I started it while in the car, and it wasn't long before I was chuckling and laughing. The Southern phrases were my favorite! I loved them!! How can you not laugh when you read "...butter my butt and call me a biscuit!!  The combination of Reagan and Aunt Kiki is priceless!! There is no shortage of laughs and fun in the series debut.

#2 Killer in Crinolines
Reagan and Aunt Kiki are back!! This time around, Reagan's friend, Chantilly, is accused of murdering her ex-fiance on his wedding day! The shop itself is less of a focus in this book, so the detective work can play more of a role. The Reagan/Boone dynamic (Boone was her ex hubby's lawyer) is nothing short of great! I loved every minute of it!

#3 Pearls and Poison

Reagan's Judge Mamma is stepping into the political ring. As usually happens, things get ugly and someone dies. This time it's Mamma's primary opponent. I haven't had the chance to read this installment yet. My Mom got the privilege of reviewing for this blog, but I plan to start very soon. I can't wait to go back to Savannah and all the Southern charm.

This series is so much fun to read. You will laugh your way through these books. Each one leaves you anxiously awaiting the next one's arrival. I encourage you to check this series out and fall in love with it like I did. You are in for a fun, Southern treat when you step into the Consignment Shop Mystery Series.

Jen Recommends: Series

July 26, 2012

A good series is a treasure meant to be shared. So, here I have made a list of some of my favorite series. There's pretty much a little bit of everything in these selections. I hope you find something you like and want to try.

Wine Lover's Mystery Series- Michele Scott

Murder Uncorked is the first book in a series that is set on a winery in Napa. Without meaning to, Derek Malveaux gets Nikki Sands fired from her restaurant job. However, after being impressed with her wine knowledge, he offers her the position of manager of his family's winery. Before she even decides whether she wants the job or not, a dead body is found on the grounds. Nikki becomes the amateur detective, in real life, that she once played on a short lived TV show.
#2-Murder By The Glass
#3- Silenced By Syrah
#4- A Vintage Murder
#5- Corked By Cabernet
#6- A Toast To Murder

Spoils of Time Trilogy- Peny Vincenzi

No Angel kicks of the best Family Saga I've ever read. Over the course of 3 books, you follow the Lytton Family from the ground up. You see how Cecilia met Oliver, their marriage, and their children. You also get a front row seat to all the highs and lows the family endures as they build a hugely successful publishing house. From war to affairs, to betrayal, to success. This series has everything. I should warn you that each book is long. However, there was never a wasted page and the story is constantly moving.
#2- Something Dangerous
#3- Into Temptation

The Luxe Series- Anna Godbersen

Luxe takes you to the early 1900s. Here you meet a group of young adults navigating their way through life. Some have a very clear idea of how they want their life to turn out, while others think they do. One of the characters makes a decision that rocks everything she knows to the core. Over the four books, you see them all deal with the twists and turns life takes them in. Anna does an amazing job of taking you out of present day life, and transporting you to time that seems long ago in many ways.
#2- Rumors
#3- Envy
#4- Splendor

Flapper series- Jillian Larkin

Vixen welcomes you to the Roaring 20s. Prohibition is in full swing, as are all the Speakeasies. Gloria Carmody wants to be a Flapper. However, her lifestyle requires a different approach. But, Gloria and her best friend, Lorraine, get into a Speakeasy and nothing stays the same after that. Gloria falls for the "wrong" guy and must choose him or her "perfect" life that's waiting for her. Singing, jazz music, gin, and gangsters take you on a journey you won't want to see end in this series.
#2- Ingenue
#3- Diva

There are numerous other series I could list here, and I'm sure they will appear on my blog in the near future. However, these 3 sounded perfect for now. I hope you give them a try and find all the magic in them that I did.
